Hiking on the Steinplatte

Whether you're a leisurely walker, mountain enthusiast or summiteer: the Steinplatte high plateau has fantastic tours to choose from for all ages and levels of difficulty. We would like to recommend a few of them to you here:

HIKING | Steinplatte Waidring

All hiking routes summarized

  • Triassic Trail (approx. 2 hours): If you're looking for an adventure, this is the trail to do. Life-size dinosaurs are hidden all over the mountain landscape, waiting to be discovered. The hike begins in the Triassic Park and leads past the Panorama Shell up to the viewing platform. From here, you can enjoy the fantastic view of the Steinplatte, the Loferer mountains, the Hohe Tauern, the Kitzbühel and Zillertal Alps and the imposing Wilder Kaiser. The trail continues past the Plattenkogel and the Bäreck reservoir and along an informative route to the summit of the Steinplatte. The way back leads below the Plattenkogel past the Rote Wand and back to the starting point. Click here for the digital map.
  • Steinplatte summit cross (approx. 1.5 hours): The well-maintained path from the mountain station of the gondola lift past the "Rote Wand" leads directly up to the summit cross. Once there, the fantastic panorama will take your breath away at first. But don't worry, we can guarantee the necessary fresh air supply at the summit so that you can tackle the way back well refreshed. You walk along the southern slope to the lower reservoir and from there back to the mountain station. Click here for the digital map.
  • Stallenalm - Grünwaldalm (approx. 2 hours): This trail starts at the top station of the Steinplatte gondola lift. From here you walk downhill for approx. 30 minutes, past the Jägerkapelle chapel and to the Stallenalm. The large sun terrace of the Stallenalm is the perfect place for a refreshing stopover. The trail continues to the Grünwaldalm and back to the Körersteig. The path above the Stallenalm takes you back to the gondola lift.
  • Stallenalm - Winkelmoosalm - Schwarzloferalm - Möseralm (approx. 4 hours): The slightly longer hike. This tour also starts at the Steinplatte gondola lift and leads past the Stallenalm to the Steinplatte mountain road. From here, the route continues through beautiful landscapes towards the Schwarzloferalm and Eibenstockhütte to the Winklmoosalm. On the way back, you can choose between 2 options: either past the Mauckklause and over the Rossfeld or over the Möseralm and back to the gondola lift.
  • Fellhorn (approx. 6 hours): A day tour through exceptionally beautiful landscapes. This tour also leads first to the Stallenalm and past the parking lot of the high road. It continues across the alpine landscape of the Durchkaser towards the Brennhütte, on to the Eggenalm (Alpengasthaus Straubingerhaus), past there and up to the Fellhorn summit. Once you have left the breathtaking panoramic views behind you, you return to the Steinplatte gondola lift.
  • Klemmerichsteig (approx. 3.5 hours): This beautiful trail, a somewhat more challenging hike, takes you from the Steinplatte to the Almenwelt Lofer. From the top station of the gondola lift, the route starts downhill towards the Möseralm, past the reservoir towards the Kammerköralm. From here, continue along the Nordalpenweg trail and then the wild and romantic Klemmerichsteig trail. The route then continues via the Schönblick inn to the Loferer Alm and the mountain station, where you can take the gondola lift directly down into the valley to Lofer.
  • Wemeteigenalm - Wiesloch (5 hours): The hike via the Stallenalm and Grünwaldalm leads to the Wemeteigenalm. The way back is via the Wieslochsteig trail, which requires maximum surefootedness. If that wasn't enough action for you, you can hike back to the mountain station via the summit of the Steinplatte, while everyone else can hike downhill past the "Rote Wand" to the Kammerkör mountain inn and take the gondola from there.
